A 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man are dead after the 16-year-old driver of the Landrover they were in lost control on Calgary Trail and struck a culvert Monday evening, say city police.

Officers received the report about 6:30 pm of a single-vehicle collision on Calgary Trail around 41 Avenue SW. The 2014 Landrover had been traveling southbound when the driver lost control and entered the center meridian striking a culvert, police said in a late Monday news release. The 16-year-old passenger in the back seat was thrown from the vehicle before the Landrover rolled several times. The boy died at the scene.

The 19-year-old passenger was removed from the vehicle before being airlifted to hospital by STARS air ambulance with serious life-threatening injuries. He died later in hospital, said police.

The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
