Among the three projects named on the territory, two won prizes during the evening.
These are the TCiTé project of the City of Gaspé, carried out in conjunction with the Régie intermunicipale de transport de la Gaspésie et des Îles-de-la-Madeleine (RÉGÎM) and the project to set up incentives for the creation of annual rental accommodation from the Maritime Community of the Islands.
” The quality and diversity of the projects honored within the framework of the 17and Ovation municipale edition of merit demonstrates, more than ever, this ability of municipalities to innovate and show creativity in the face of the main challenges of the day. »
A jury made up of eight people evaluated the achievements based on five criteria, namely the innovative nature of the projects, their approach to results, the potential for transfer or adaptability, the spin-offs of the project in the community, the level of optimization and mobilization of resources as well as the impacts with regard to the fight against climate change.
The TCiTé project wins the Transport, mobility and accessibility category
The team of REGIME
has been overseeing the TCiTé smart public transit and electrified transportation project, sponsored by the City of Gaspé, for over a year. It’s a nice pat on the back, recognition of the work done and the value of the project for the whole team and our partners.
confides the director general of the REGIME , Marie-Andrée Pichette. The manager adds that the team was very moved and happy with this appointment.
” It’s a great representation of the region in a provincial level event. »
The TCiTé project was selected by the jury because of the scope and impact of its service offer on public transport.
We have ten cars on the territory in collaboration with five municipalities, namely Gaspé, the Islands, Grande-Rivière, Chandler, Marie and Carleton
explains Ms. Pichette.
These vehicles are mostly used by municipal employees and local organizations, but also by tourists and newcomers.
Last summer, we still had quite a few tourists who used them, otherwise they were families or workers for spontaneous needs.
she says.
Marie-Andrée Pichette maintains that so far, users have shown great interest in the project, which is only in its first phase.
” It is sure that it is a project which begins quietly. These are habits to be implanted, but little by little people use it. There is really interest in the project! »
She also mentions that the REGIME
wishes, eventually, to make more electric cars accessible to citizens. We test the market, we look at what works, who our users are, what sectors they come from. We are really evaluating the project and in the next phases, we will increase the fleet
confirms Ms. Pichette.
It also indicates that the Régie plans to extend the hours of vehicle availability.
The implementation of incentives for housing rewarded
The Îles-de-la-Madeleine maritime community, which has been focusing on the housing crisis on its territory for several years, distinguished itself in the Socio-community development and interculturality category for its incentive project for the creation of housing annual rentals.
The jury opted for this project because it offers a long-term solution to the housing shortage and has a rigorous framework.
We were already very proud of the initiatives we implemented and the impact they had on the community, but here, it just confirmed that what we did made sense and that we was going in the right direction
underlines the supervisor and territorial development officer for the Municipality, Marie-Christine LeBlanc.
” We have tried to multiply initiatives to address the issue of housing in several spheres. »
In recent years, the Îles-de-la-Madeleine have succeeded in implementing several measures to promote housing construction, including a credit for property and service taxes for the addition of apartments, a call for thematic projects which should generate 100 new units and economic spinoffs of $15 million.
A standing committee on housing, a worker accommodation assistance program and a rental housing survey are also on the list of projects deployed on the Islands.
Ms. LeBlanc is also proud that the project to create the non-subsidized private daycare center Les Élymes was a finalist in the Planning and Environment category.
