Équipe Peter Malouf candidates Sarah Morgan, who lost by 24 votes in District 6, and Robert Tannous, who lost by 13 votes in District 7, submitted the recount requests themselves, Malouf said Thursday after speaking with the couple.

“There were some that I would call inefficiencies,” Malouf said of the vote count Sunday night. But, he added, “I think it’s important that we don’t slander anyone or anything.”

Validating the counts in the two tight races is in everyone’s interest, Malouf said.

The Quebec Law Relating to Elections and Referendums in Municipalities allows anyone to request a recount as long as they have “reasonable grounds to believe that a deputy teller, an electoral clerk or the teller has incorrectly counted or rejected votes or has drawn up a statement. incorrect number of votes cast in favor of a candidate. “

Note that a recount is being requested in the Quebec Court from the municipal teller within four days after the end of the vote recount. In the case of TMR, that deadline ended on Thursday at the end of the day. It is up to a judge of the Quebec Court to decide whether to grant or reject a request for a recount.

Morgan lost to Caroline Decaluwe, United’s candidate for TMR-Team Setlakwe, while Tannous lost to Sébastien Dreyfuss, also United’s candidate for TMR-Team Setlakwe.

Malouf defeated his only opponent in the mayoral race, Michelle Setlakwe, with 3,710 votes to Setlakwe’s 2,978.

Voter turnout in TMR was 48.7 percent.

Equipe Peter Malouf won four of the eight councilor seats.

Setlakwe was a councilor with outgoing mayor Philippe Roy for the last term. Roy announced this year that he would not seek reelection.

United for TMR said Setlakwe was unavailable for comment this week. In an email message, the party said that “we had observers at all polling stations to count the votes and no irregularities were reported.”

Alexandre Verdy, TMR’s counting officer, confirmed late Thursday that two recounts have been requested.

Reasons invoked for either recount, he said, included inconsistencies in certain lists of voters who had been marked as having already voted, inconsistencies in the number of mail-in ballots, and a complaint about the way the deputy counting officer pulled ballots from a ballot box. and counted them.

Verdy said a Quebec court judge will decide on requests for recount on Monday.
