Twenty Catalan Rodalies, metro and tram stations change their names

To provide more accurate information or to avoid cluelessness or confusion. And that is precisely what could happen up to now in many stations whose denomination could be misleading. Because two operators share a halt but have different names. Or because two operators give the same name to their stops without being physically next to each other. The Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) has decided to change the name of 21 stations Metro, Rodalies, Ferrocarrils or Tram.

The ATM’s decision has two objectives. On the one hand, that the link stations have the same name even though they are from different operators. On the other, that there are not two unlinked stations (separate one from the other) that have the same denomination. This is done for avoid confusions. Then there are the stations (four of the metro and one of the Tram) that will change their name to specify more and better the place where they are located. The thing is as follows.

Linked stations that unify their name:

  • The Fabra i Puig and Rodalies de Sant Andreu Arenal metro stations share the name of FABRA I PUIG.

  • The Sant Andreu metro station and the Rodalies de Sant Andreu Comtal station are unified under the title of SANT ANDREU.

  • The Clot and Rodalies de Clot-Aragó metro stations will share the name of THE CLOTH.

  • Terrassa Estació del Nord (Ferrocarrils) and Terrassa (Rodalies) will both be called TERRASSA STATION OF THE NORD.

  • Martorell Central (FGC) and Martorell (Rodalies) are unified in MARTORELL CENTER.

  • Torre Baró/Vallbona metro station and Torre Baró (Rodalies) will share the name of BARÓ/VALLBONA TOWER.

Unlinked stations updating their name

  • The Bellvitge metro station is renamed Bellvitge Rambla Marina. The Bellvitge de Rodalies station will now be Bellvitge/Gornal.

  • The Rubí de FGC stop will be now Ruby Center. The Rubí Rodalies station will be called Ruby Can Vallhonrat.

  • The Sant Cugat de Ferrocarrils halt will be Sant Cugat Center. Sant Cugat de Rodalies becomes Sant Cugat Coll Fava.

  • The Santa Perpètua de Mogoda Rodalies stop will add ‘Florida‘ on their billboards, while the new Rodalies station will be called Santa Perpetua de Mogoda Riera de Caldes

Stations that adapt their name to the environment

  • Drassanes metro station will now be LA RAMBLA/DRASSANES.

  • The Vall d’Hebron metro station is renamed VALL D’HEBRON/SANT GENIS.

  • The Llucmajor metro stop will debut the name LLUCMAJOR/REPUBLIC.

  • From now on, the Congrés metro station will be called CONGRESS/INDIANS.

  • Wellington Tram Station will be WELLINGTON/UPF.

All these name changes have already been approved and the different operators are expected to make the corresponding changes throughout 2022.
