The sex assault trial of Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard is continuing Friday with the cross-examination of the second of two women to testify Hoggard raped them in a hotel room in 2016.

Hoggard, 37, has pleaded not guilty to sexual touching of a person under the age of 16 and two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm. Hoggard has admitted to having a “sexual encounter” with each complainant, and his lawyer has suggested both women have fabricated their allegations of violent, repeated sexual assaults that left them with physical injuries.

The woman, who is now in her late 20s, testified this week that she came from Ottawa to Toronto to have sex with Hoggard in November 2016 but that, once in a hotel room, he anally, vaginally and orally raped her over the course of three or four hours.

Earlier in the trial another woman, now in her early 20s, testified that she had been a huge fan of the Canadian pop-rock band since she was a small child. She said she began texting with Hoggard when she was 15 and that he grabbed her bum from her and tried to kiss her neck from her after a concert at the Air Canada Centre.

Several months later, when she was 16, she alleges he repeatedly raped her in a hotel room near Pearson airport. She said she never intended to have sex with Hoggard that day and thought they’d be having lunch in downtown Toronto.

The trial continues.
