Trial for Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard continues Monday

The trial for Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard continues Monday with the cross-examination of a young woman who alleges Hoggard raped her when she was 16 in a Mississauga hotel room and groped her after a concert when she was 15.

Hoggard has pleaded not guilty to sexual touching of a person under the age of 16 and two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm. One of the sexual assault charges is linked to a second woman who has not yet testified.

The young woman testified last week that she and Hoggard began exchanging increasingly romantic and sexual messages in April 2016 when she was 15. On Sept. 30, 2016, she said Hoggard sent a car for her that brought her to his hotel de ella in Mississauga. Instead of the day out in downtown Toronto she said she expected her, she said he raped her in her hotel room causing her serious injuries.

She told her friend at the time, and a week later, her mother, she said, and filed a police report two years later in 2018.

Hoggard has admitted to having a “sexual encounter” with each complainant in the fall of 2016.
