TPH fired another TDSB school after COVID-19 cases were discovered

Toronto Public Health fired students at an elementary school in the Wychwood neighborhood from in-person learning and activities due to confirmed cases of COVID-19, Sunday night.

As advised by TPH, the Toronto District School Board will temporarily close McMurrich Junior Public School beginning Monday to investigate COVID-19 cases.

The board’s website shows that the school had reported four cases of COVID-19, one of which was resolved.

TPH recommended a school-wide layoff as a precautionary measure to protect staff, students, and the community from further spread within the school.

“All students will transition to remote learning during this time,” TDSB said in a tweet.

Close contacts have been notified and asked to stay home, monitor symptoms, and get tested. “We will work closely with our school partners to determine when in-person learning will resume,” TPH said in a tweet.

People are urged to maintain physical detachment, wear a mask when in public spaces, and get fully vaccinated.

The most recent figures on the TDSB website report 331 COVID-19 cases among its students and 47 cases among staff. More than 250 cases have been resolved.
