In a Friday news release, the Alberta government said the charges are related to the July 18, 2020 crash involving an ice explorer vehicle that had 25 people on board and rolled down an embankment on the Athabasca Glacier in Jasper National Park.

Three passengers died in the rollover and a number of other people were injured including the driver, the release added.

Brewsters Inc. has been charged with eight counts under the Occupational Health and Safety Act related to the use and maintenance of seatbelts, failing to control hazards and failing to ensure equipment was in safe operating condition.

The matter is scheduled for Jasper provincial court on June 23.

A separate Alberta RCMP criminal investigation into the incident concluded but a review is still in process, the province added, and in accordance with the act, Mounties have shared all requested material from the investigation with Alberta’s minister of labor and immigration.

RCMP are expected to update victims and families at a later time.
