Toronto police say a man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting earlier this year was arrested in Los Angeles.

Police say 22-year-old Hassan Ali, also known as the Top5 rapper, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday.

Ali was wanted for first degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Hashim Omar Ali.

Police say Ali was shot while trying to drive his vehicle into the parking lot of an apartment building at 40 Falstaff on the night of January 31. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the shooting, Det. Sergeant. Ted Lioumanis said that Hashi was not involved in any gang activity and that they were still working to determine the motive for the shooting.

A second suspect, Emmanuel Missah, 24, of Toronto, was arrested in February in connection with this investigation. He faces charges of accessory after the fact of murder and failure to comply with recognition.

This was Toronto’s fifth homicide of 2021.
