Toronto Police Investigate Bloor Street Bomb Threat

Toronto police are investigating reports of a bomb threat in downtown Toronto Tuesday night.

Police responded to calls shortly after 3 pm The incident occurred on Bloor Street East between Sherbourne St. and Mount Pleasant Rd. The area is currently closed for investigation.

Police detonated a suspicious suitcase in a controlled explosion. The Explosives Disposal Unit, Toronto Fire and paramedics are on the scene. Residents described the buildings as shaking after the detonation.

Some people reported being asked to evacuate their building, while others remained inside. Residents also reported multiple helicopter sightings.

The TTC diverted the 75 Sherbourne bus through Isabella Street, Jarvis Street and Wellesley Street. Regular service has been resumed.

Police have asked people to stay out of the area.
