Toronto police have charged a 35-year-old man who they say used various online names similar to child stars on social media to entice children to send him photos and videos of sexual exploitation.
José Paolo Caoitan of Toronto is charged with 138 crimes, including 43 counts of attracting children, 25 counts of doing child pornography, 18 counts of inviting sexual contact and 23 counts of breach of section 161 of the Penal Code, which means Caoitan he had previously been charged with crimes involving a child or children under the age of 16, and these current alleged crimes violate his previous conditions.
On October 27, a search warrant was carried out in the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Midland Avenue, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) said in a press release Monday.
Almost a month later, on November 25, Caoitan was arrested and charges were filed.
The TPS Child Exploitation and Sex Crimes Section stated that the defendant used multiple online profiles with usernames similar to popular child celebrities on social media. Police allege that the profiles were used to “entice children to send them photos and videos of sexual exploitation.”
