Tomás Summers dies, discoverer of Paz Padilla and Chiquito de la Calzada


The academic, director, screenwriter and producer Tomás Summers has passed away on Saturday, April 23 at the age of 76 in Seville, his hometown. The founding member of the Academy of Television and Audiovisual Arts and Sciences died of causes related to Covid-19.

Summers specialized in musical, variety and comedy programs when discovered numerous renowned comedians such as Paz Padilla, Chiquito de la Calzada, Manu Sánchez or Santi Rodríguez. In the statement sent to the media, the Academy adds to the pain and sadness for the loss of this legendary professional and sends its support and affection to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

His first collaboration on TVE was on the programs ‘Todo’ and ‘Fórmula todo’, writing and directing humorous scripts together with Forges and his brother Guillermo Summers.

His first success came in 1989 with the contest ‘Saque Bola’ on Canal Sur. Later, he continued with the humorous format and jokes, when he met Chiquito de la Calzada in 1994. Already in 2005, he began his career as a presenter in ‘Hacemos el humor’, ‘Las cuatro Temporadas’ or ‘Son laughs and tears’.

One of his last jobs was for the regional network Telemadrid. Summers directed during last Christmas the format ‘Smile, it’s Christmas’. In addition, he was also president of the producer Summers Producciones.
