Three people die in vehicle crash near Wheatley

OPP say a single-vehicle crash near Leamington on Sunday night resulted in three fatalities.

The collision happened just before 8 pm on Mersea Road 8 about one kilometer east of County Road 37, northwest of Wheatley.

The vehicle apparently left the roadway, struck a bridge embankment, and caught on fire.

Leamington firefighters and Essex-Windsor EMS attended the scene along with OPP.

The vehicle had three deceased occupants.

OPP collision investigators examined the scene.

Mersea Road 8 was closed from County Road 37 and Kent Road 1 throughout the night, and was reopened just before 6 am Monday.

Mersea Road 8 where the accident occurred is a two-lane roadway with no lighting. There are residential and farm properties in the area. The posted speed limit is 80 km/h.
