The federal Ministry of Health (SSA) announced that as of this Thursday the registration for vaccination against Covid-19 for children and adolescents 12 years of age and older will be opened.
The Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, indicated that this vaccination stage will be for any minor who is 12 years old or older, whether or not they have any comorbidity.
“It is about not only girls and boys with comorbidities, as we have been doing for four and a half months, but also all healthy girls and boys 12 years of age and older, the vaccines will now be available for them to receive, universal coverage from the age of 12”, said the undersecretary in the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Noting that severe Covid-19 disease is found in only 5% of the country’s population, López-Gatell considered that Mexico already meets the criteria to say that the epidemic cycle is closing and moving to an endemic state, that is, say, that you live with the virus.
“Covid-19, the SARS-CoV-2 virus is not going to go away from humanity, just as almost none of the respiratory viruses that have caused epidemics have gone away,” he said, while explaining that it is very likely that the Covid-19 begins to behave like influenza does, which increases cases in cold times and decreases in hot times.
The federal official announced that new health safety guidelines are being prepared, since, he said, the use of face masks in open spaces will no longer be essential.
“We can say at this time that the use of face masks is no longer essential. In closed spaces it would be the last element where it is needed to be used, but in the open space it is less necessary ”, he expressed.
Eliminate traffic light
Likewise, it was said that a risk traffic light for Covid-19 will no longer be issued, since for four consecutive sessions it remains green and the projection is that it will remain so “for a long time”.
While the report on the behavior of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Mexico will now be published weekly and the morning conferences of El Pulso de la Salud will end.
In this sense, President López Obrador announced that the main attention in health matters will now focus on the creation of the new health care system in the face of the decrease in cases of Covid-19, whose attention will also continue.
