In order to equip the state police and to promote intelligence work on cybersecurity, the head of the Ministry of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, announced that he will present an initiative so that the resources seized by the authorities for the crime of extortion are used in security.
“Just to give you an idea, by telephone extortion the Financial Intelligence Unit has detected about 14,000 million pesos that nobody claims because there is no complaint and there is no crime,” he added.
During a meeting with the presidents of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur), the federal official stated that the crime of extortion is one of the greatest concerns in the country, despite the instability that causes the high incidence of intentional homicides, since the former impacts all economic areas and has various manifestations.
“It is very difficult to win the battle because it has various typologies, it is not just what is known as floor right, it is traditional telephone extortion, among others,” said the Secretary of the Interior.
Due to the above, Augusto López Hernández, pointed out that the fight against criminal gangs is not limited to a single state, so it must be addressed in a coordinated manner with various sectors of society, since, he said, “it is a monster of 1,000 heads we face. We have to do things better, we fight first with the mistrust of the citizen”.
The crime of extortion is an issue that worries the federal government, said the head of Segob.
