In the Chamber of Deputies, they propose to reform and add articles 3 and 6 of the General Health Law with the aim of considering matters of general health, care, control, management and surveillance of mechanisms that promote the rehabilitation of people with post-Covid sequelae. 19.

According to estimates by experts from the National Institute of Perinatology, Covid-19 can cause long-term sequelae (Long Covid) in up to 30% of people who have acquired the virus. That is, until February of this year, it was estimated that there were at least one million 650,000 people with sequelae.

Deputy Jorge Ángel Sibaja Mendoza of the Morena caucus also seeks that the National Health System aims to promote the creation of comprehensive care and rehabilitation programs for respiratory illnesses or diseases and those caused by Covid-19.

The initiative, which was turned over to the San Lázaro Health Commission, specifies that the pandemic caused by Covid-19 has left consequences such as difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, tiredness or fatigue, difficulty thinking or concentrating, cough, pain in chest or stomach, headache, among others.

The legislator explained that due to the above, it is important that the relevant actions can be coordinated in order to promote permanent comprehensive care programs for the rehabilitation of people with post-Covid-19 sequelae.

He referred that the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) has offered comprehensive rehabilitation in 106 units to 178,000 beneficiaries with sequelae of Covid-19, who have been treated by a multidisciplinary health team with personalized evaluations, in order to identify sequelae early. in patients.

Programs such as the one implemented by the IMSS, considered the legislator, are necessary to provide comprehensive care to those patients who, due to their clinical conditions, require it.
