There are no deaths linked to the Omicron variant at the moment: WHO

The World Health Organizationd (WHO) has no record of any death linked to the Omicron variant of the coronavirussaid one of its spokespersons in Geneva on Friday.

I have not seen any information on deaths linked to Omicron, “Christian Lindmeier told a news conference in Geneva.

But taking into account that many countries increase their tests to try to detect the new variant “we will surely have more cases, more information and, hopefully not, possibly deaths,” he said.

The new variant, considered worrisome by the WHO, was first detected in southern Africa but since South African authorities alerted the world of its discovery, on November 24, Covid-19 cases due to Omicron have been recorded in about 30 countries on all continents.

Among them are infections linked to travel to southern Africa, but also cases of local transmission.

WHO considers that the probability that OMICRON SPREAD ALL OVER THE WORLD it is “high” although there are many unknowns about the real danger and transmissibility of this variant.
