The voice of the convoy…

In Quebec, this weekend, the convoy of freedom will bring together several artists. Between Rambo Gauthier’s speeches, there will be a performance by Marie-Chantal Toupin, but also three performances by Keven Chouinard, who presents himself as “the voice of the convoy”.

Keven wrote a song that has become the rallying cry of truckers… around the world.

Except that… the lyrics are not always very clear.

THE TRUCKERS’ ANTHEM

Keven Chouinard sang several times for protesters in Ottawa. He even claims that several people have traveled to the capital just to hear him sing. Keven, who made a living as a truck driver, wrote The convoy

“An original (sic) song that comes (sic) from my heart directly. »

On social media, there are also several videos of young children singing The convoy.

On Instagram, Keven is proud to share a video of a freedom convoy in Switzerland playing his song: “My song is made (sic) wherever its (sic) speaks French”.

But what is there in this song that explains its success?

Perhaps it’s the catchy chorus: “If you stop me from feeding my family / From not (sic) bringing home / my truck’s pride / so that you don’t think a trucker / is a limp and heartless / Me become battalion, unison will win”.

Sorry, but no matter how many times I turn it around, the phrase “I have become a battalion, unison will win” makes no sense.

Another passage is just as nebulous: “So the convoy will agree /make the decision /if we stay at home”.

Will we agree? What are we coming? I don’t even know how to transcribe this passage.

I listened to several Keven Chouinard songs where he normally pronounces the words “victory” or “history”. But in the song The convoy, he wants these words to rhyme with “health passport”. So it gives this:

“For a health pass / For a war of power / who has nothing to do with you / with my devotees / without wanting victory / in your stories / obligates”.

Ouch, it hurts my ears. But Keven is sometimes capable of beautiful rhymes…

“To seduce your desires / even if it destroyed us / we listen to the tape / which is always repeated / and then we respect it / by stepping / to the left, to drette”.

I DID MY RESEARCH

I learned that Keven Chouinard had been sentenced to 50 hours of community service, accompanied by two years probation, in a case of threats in a marital context, in 2015. Then I came across this rather spectacular information dating from March 18 2019.

“Keven Chouinard was arrested on Friday in Chicoutimi, while he was talking, in the middle of an interview with TVA Nouvelles, about his career and his sometimes difficult life”.

Indeed, while he was talking with TVA, two police officers arrested him outright and he was “charged with assault, assault with a weapon and death threats”.

According to the docket of the courthouse, the case ended in “810”, that is to say a ban on contact.

Is that called “facing the music”?
