The Sags smoking in front of the Drakkar

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens won 4-2 at the expense of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Friday night at the Center George-Vézina. At the same time, the Sags recorded a fourth victory in six games during this pre-season.

The first period was a relatively quiet one for both teams, who retreated to the locker room with a goalless score. However, Félix Lafrance came very close to moving the strings for Chicoutimi, as his power-play shot hit the post of Drakkar goalkeeper Olivier Ciarlo.

Yanick Jean’s men came back in force in the second tier. Tristan Pelletier proved why he was named assistant captain, opening the scoring for the Bleuets. The 18-year-old newcomer, Julien Bourget, then came to add his two cents on the breakaway, bringing the score to 2-0 for the locals.

History repeated itself at the start of third. The men in blue wereted no time in widening the gap to three goals. Baie-Comeau then somehow tried to come back in the goal game for Mathys Poulin and Justin Sullivan, but to no avail. Pelletier finally completed the score with his second goal of the game in an empty net. The Saguenéens thus quietly headed for a 4-2 gain.

Several breakaways

The Saguenay attackers had the number of Drakkar defenders throughout the game on Friday. They found themselves not two, not three, but four times alone in front of the goalkeeper. It all cost Jean-François Grégoire’s troop no less than two goals.

Great things on the power play

The representatives of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean may not have scored on the special teams, but they were able to be threatening. In addition to the crossbar hit by Lafrance in first, the Sags had once again to come up against the amounts of the Drakkar net. It was the former Élites de Jonquières, Fabrice Fortin, who came up against the north-coastal posts at the end of the second period.

The Saguenéens will return to action on Friday, September 17, at the Center George-Vézina. The Sags will face their eternal rivals, the Remparts de Québec, for the occasion. The two teams have faced each other only once this season and Quebec had the upper hand.
