The relocation is complete in La Baie

All the victims of the La Baie landslide who wanted it were rehoused, and in view of the generosity of the people, the City of Saguenay redistributed surplus donations.

The operation to temporarily relocate the victims ended on Tuesday.

“All the citizens of La Baie have been relocated. Those who are not have made the choice to stay with relatives or camping, ”explained Martin Lavoie, from the communications department of the City of Saguenay.

After three evacuation phases, 187 people had to leave their homes. Of the 76 houses affected, at least five will have to be destroyed. The fate of four others is still pending.

The works which will consist in softening the slope at the origin of the slide will take from two to four months and will make it possible to reintegrate at least 67 houses.

Redistribution

The City of Saguenay’s call to help the victims was heard. It received 128 donations of furniture and household appliances, 55 housing offers and 39 offers of various services.

“We received more than 128 items, since many of the furniture and appliance donations contained a lot of things,” explained Dominic Arseneau of the City’s communications department.

Following an agreement signed with Saguenay on Tuesday, the Municipal Housing Office (OMH) will recover surplus furniture and appliances.

“She will eventually redistribute them to other victims, in particular those of HLM Saint-Dominique where there was a fire [le 24 juin] “, specified Mr. Lavoie.

“Generous People”

Stéphanie Tremblay’s family was able to benefit from housing and mattresses found by the City.

“We were among the first to have accommodation, a two-story apartment with four bedrooms. It’s wonderful, ”says the mother of children aged 2, 3 and 10 who will give birth to her fourth in November.

“We have a good network of friends and we appealed to everyone to find furniture. It was quick. Many people had things to lend us. It’s amazing. Everyone is ready to help us. People are really generous. I even turned down offers,” she added.

In addition, the people evacuated on Saturday on rue Saint-Timothée and on rue Joseph-Dandurand in the Chicoutimi sector all had the green light to return home on Tuesday.
