The Covid-19 pandemic it will end “when everyone decides to end it”, since we currently have “all the tools” necessary to fight the virus, said the head of the WHO on Sunday. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“The pandemic will end when everyone decides to end it, it is in our hands, we have all the tools we need to do so,” said the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Berlin, where it once again insisted on a more balanced distribution at the global level of vaccines against Covid-19.
He also recalled that “with about 50,000 deaths a week” in the world, “the pandemic is far from over.”
Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the “World Summit on Health”, which brings together health professionals and political leaders every year in Berlin.
The WHO has set a goal that 40% of the population of each country be vaccinated against Covid-19 before the end of the year and 70% by mid-2022.
Adhanom Ghebreyesus lamented on multiple occasions the hoarding of vaccines by rich countries.
“The objective is achievable, but only if the countries and companies that control the supply translate their statements into facts,” he insisted from the German capital.
