The murders of journalists are orchestrated by organized crime and not by the State: AMLO

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated that most of the murders of journalists What happened so far during his government is attributed to organized crime and that the fundamental difference with respect to what happened in the past is that today there is no impunity, they are not crimes committed by the State and the material and intellectual perpetrators have already been arrested. .

“I am taking responsibility. Not only that, of course I am working to protect journalists… The difference between these unfortunate cases, with those of before, is that the journalists murdered now, almost all of them, have been victims of criminal organizations that were inherited from a failed policy that began in the 80s and was maintained for 36 years of the neoliberal period. These gangs emerged in that period and were even tolerated by neoliberal governments,” he responded this Thursday morning at his usual morning press conference at the National Palace, when a New York journalist asked him if he recognizes that his government is failing to establish conditions for the journalistic exercise.

And he invited the communicator to attend the press conference next Thursday, when his government will report in detail on the investigations into the murders of journalists during his term.

By ensuring that most of the media they do not speak, or do so very little, about the context and background of the criminal groups that murder journalists today, he explained that during the six-year term of former President Felipe Calderón “it went to the extreme” that the Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna , “he had relations with organized crime and that is why he is imprisoned in the United States.”

“These gangs are maintained because it takes time to pacify a country after 36 years of promoting violence from the state,” he said.

He later denied that, as his interlocutor affirmed, “the problem” is “worse than ever.”

“No. No. It is not like that; there is a fundamental difference, these are not state crimes,” he refuted.

He said he had “all the elements” to change the impression that the foreign journalist has. “We can give you the information, case by case, but not only that, unlike before, in all these homicides there are already detainees. There is no impunity.”

When the journalist inquired, given his arguments that there is a media campaign against his government taking advantage of the murders of journalists, who are the humble journalists, those who work for social networks and in the territory, who have informed him that they feel that the López Obrador government is failing them, explained that there is “a plan to protect journalists.”

Finally, he said that, in effect, the journalists who have been murdered are the humble ones, those who work in the different regions of the country, not “the journalists who are at the service of the potentates,” who are not at risk, and who are He doesn’t want anything to happen to them, just as he doesn’t want anything to happen to anyone.
