The miraculous mistake that benefited Alberto Barranco

What do Alberto Medardo Barranco Chavarría and Bernardo Barranco Villafán have in common? In the light of reading, only his surname, however, due to the cruelty of the destiny designed by the bureaucracy, both characters will be linked by an error: he is an ambassador in the Vatican who was not going to be named as such and he is not an ambassador in the Vatican who had been thought as such.

Bernardo Barranco would disagree with Borges: chance is usually generous, you just have to let it act. Alberto Barranco would agree with the phrase. Luck is on the side of those who do not think about it.

Bernardo Barranco is a teacher in Sociology of Catholicism. Alberto Barranco is a journalist sympathetic to the 4T. The first, that is, Bernardo, is able to describe religious movements throughout history. The second, that is, Alberto, has told former President Fox “shut up, chachalaca; questions what was done by former president Salinas de Gortari; and he has requested prison for Peña Nieto.

In August of this year Bernardo Barranco published the book Sacred Predators (Grijalbo), a compilation that reflects on the damage caused by clerical pedophilia. Alberto Barranco, has been a financial columnist and urban chronicle in various newspapers: La Jornada, El Financiero and Reforma.

One, the teacher in Sociology of Catholicism, that is, Bernardo, is not an ambassador to the Vatican. The other, Alberto, is the Mexican ambassador to the Vatican.

The white smoke was seen in the upper part of the National Palace. Habemus legatus. We have an ambassador.

On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, President López Obrador received Alberto Barranco in his office in the National Palace to wish him good luck in his diplomatic mission. In his Twitter account you can read what he wrote that same day. He described Alberto Barranco as “a man of integrity, intelligent and respectable.”

At the time, August 2019, the Senate approved with blind faith, as mandated by the booklet Yes, Mr. President, it’s the time you want (Zalamero editorial), the appointment of Alberto Barranco as a brand-new ambassador to the Vatican.

What happened throughout the selection and appointment process of the Mexican ambassador to the Vatican? A knowledgeable source on the subject confirms to me that Bernardo Barranco Villafán was intended for him to travel to the Vatican, but something happened along the critical path.

The source tells me that it was an error. The person who looked in his address book for Barranco’s phone number took it to Alberto and not to Bernardo. It was the journalist who received the lucky call: the President has seen fit to elect him as the ambassador to the Vatican.

President López Obrador was not displeased that a journalist related to his movement became an ambassador.

Sudden saint, a miraculous mistake.
