The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau.

The Court of Instruction number 21 of Barcelona continues with the open investigation into the alleged favorable treatment of the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, when granting subsidies to related entities. It is expected that this Tuesday the Delegate Comptroller of the Barcelona City Council, Carmen Torres Morales, will testify as a witness, as requested by the Association for Transparency and Democratic Quality, which filed the complaint and is appearing as a popular accusation in this judicial proceeding.

In his petition, this entity considers that, in his declaration as investigated, Colau left a series of questions unresolved by availing himself of his right not to respond to the lawyers of this accusation. The association’s lawyers maintain that this testimonial will shed light on the alleged irregularity of the reported subsidies, since the official has issued relevant reports on the processing of these grants and subsidies. Specifically, the Intervention of the City Council has raised objections to agreements.

Colau’s defense maintains that this lawsuit has no future since a similar investigation was previously filed by the prosecution and he hopes that the case will be dismissed soon. In addition, he maintains that many of the subsidized entities already received aid with previous mayors of another political sign. Among the items now under suspicion are those granted to the DESC Observatory – the mayor worked before entering politics-, the Mortgage Affected Platform (PAH) -of which he was spokesman and visible head-, Alliance against Energy Poverty and Engineers Sense Fronteres.
