The Government of Oaxaca presents “July, Month of the Guelaguetza 2022” at the Palace of Fine Arts


  • The pre-sale of tickets for the Mondays of the Hill of the #Guelaguetza2022 will begin on May 15
  • All the venues and spaces where the activities will take place will comply with the Safe Travels security protocols.

Mexico City. April 6, 2022.- The Governor of the State of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, announced this morning before national and international media the activities of “July, Month of the Guelaguetza 2022”, the most important racial tribute in America that this year celebrates its 90th anniversary.

During the meeting held at the Palace of Fine Arts to promote this festivity, the State President highlighted that this year the celebration will return in person to the Rotonda de las Azucenas to enjoy the biggest party, the Guelaguetza.

“It fills me with pride to be here, in the main arts venue in Mexico, to announce the realization of our maximum festival, the Guelaguetza, which after the challenge that we live as humanity in the face of the pandemic, symbolizes brotherhood, union and life; That is why we come here, to invite all of Mexico and the world to join us. We are ready to show that Oaxaca is one of the most diverse, prosperous and peaceful states in Mexico”, he stated while thanking the Government of Mexico for all the support and backing.

In welcoming, the General Director of the National Institute of Fine Arts, Lucina Jiménez, expressed that the Guelaguetza is the possibility of cultural, social and also economic mobility, and highlighted that this festivity is one of the most important cultural expressions of our country.

And he added that in the Guelaguetza there is an important force to enjoy cultural diversity in addition to knowing that the living cultures of the peoples continue their march.

For his part, the Secretary of Tourism of the entity, Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, stressed that the Guelaguetza Auditorium will be a safe place that will respect the hygiene measures stipulated in the protocols of the Safe Travels seal granted by the World Travel and Tourism Council, so the visitors can rest easy attending each of the four editions of the Guelaguetza that will take place on July 25 and August 1.

Likewise, he said, hygiene measures will be monitored in the activities on July 8, 9, 15 and 16 when the long-awaited Guelaguetza Convites will take place, which will run through the main streets of the Historic Center, and on July 23 and 30 July, with the Official Parade of Delegations, on the eve of the Mondays of the Hill.

He also announced that the accesses to witness the Mondays of the Hill can be purchased through Supertickets, in presale from May 15, with a cost of: 1,335 pesos in section A, and 1,055 in section B. ; The sale will be from June 1 at a cost of: 1,475 pesos in section A, and 1,195 in section B.

“Just like 90 years ago, today, the racial encounter pays tribute to life after a pause that made us value distance to appreciate closeness, honor those who left and value the importance of caring for each other. The 1932 ethnic meeting was held to restore hope to Oaxacans after a devastating earthquake; and just as in those years life was celebrated, this 2022, we meet again in the broadest sense of the Guelaguetza: to reciprocally give brotherhood and common well-being, ”he said.

For his part, the Secretary of Economy of Oaxaca, Juan Pablo Guzmán Cobián, announced that the 2022 Mezcal Fair will be held from July 22 to August 3, at the entity’s Cultural and Convention Center, with the participation of 125 local companies, including mezcal, agro-industrial, artisanal and gastronomic sectors of Oaxaca over 13 days in which it is expected to receive around 130 thousand attendees.

He also explained that the Mezcal Fair seeks to highlight the vast wealth of Oaxaca, prioritizing the culture, promotion, tasting and marketing of our drink par excellence, mezcal. “Oaxaca is the largest marketer of mezcal at a national and international level. Today, our flagship drink reaches 72 countries, and the presence continues to advance, thus fulfilling the objective of bringing more of Oaxaca to the world, to strengthen the economy of Oaxacan families”, he specified.

For her part, the Secretary of Cultures and Arts of Oaxaca, Karla Villacaña Quevedo, announced that the agency has prepared an extraordinary series of activities that will begin on July 11 and will last until Wednesday, August 3, with little more than 80 artistic and cultural presentations to celebrate and spread the richness of our state and the wonderful diversity of the eight regions.

He explained that dance, musical, talks, concerts, book presentations and exhibitions will be held, “for which this opportunity serves to thank the municipal authorities, the applicant delegations, the authenticity committee and the artists, who, with their enthusiasm, support and dedication, will make it possible to offer a magnificent Guelaguetza to Mexico and the world,” he said.
