The Govern points out that in Sant Adrià the air pollution values set by the EU are not exceeded

The Generalitat has verified that the municipality of Sant Adrià del Besòs (Barcelonés) does not exceed the reference pollution values legislated by the European Union after carrying out a campaign to measure air quality in the territory, after complaints from the neighborhood platform AireNet. The general director of Calitat Ambiental i Canvi Climàtic of the Generalitat, Marc Sanglas, presented this Wednesday the results report of the campaign together with the Councilor for Climate Emergency of Barcelona, Eloi Badia; the manager of the Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB), Carme Borrell, and the third deputy mayor of Sant Adrià, Ruth Soto.

The Generalitat carried out the campaign between November 8, 2021 and January 25, 2022 on Paseo de Antonio Machado, in the Catalana neighborhood, at the request of the municipality’s council, through three mobile units that evaluate atmospheric pollutants. Sanglas has assured that the control of air quality over the Barcelona metropolitan area and the special protection zones “is constant”, with 25 measurement points, a network that he has highlighted is much more extensive than what the directive establishes European. Likewise, he has valued “the sensitivity” of the Government and the rest of the administrations around Barcelona and Catalonia regarding this issue, on which he has insisted that they will continue working to improve it and go beyond what the European directives mark. .

This report from the Generalitat joins two that the ASPB has already carried out: one on mortality, in which it was found that “there were no significant differences” between the situation in Sant Adrià and that of the rest of the city, and another on the analysis of dioxins and furans, in which it was concluded that there was no risk, explained Borrell. Soto thanked the Generalitat for carrying out the campaign and assured that they are continuing to work to improve actions to ensure air quality.

The presentation of this report coincides with the open case for alleged ecological crime of the Sant Adrià de Besòs waste incinerator, managed by the public company Tersa, on which Sanglas has refused to comment and has assured that the Conselleria d’Acció Climáàica has provided all the data that has been claimed from them by the court. Badia has clarified that it is “a crime of risk and not of public health” and has remarked that air pollution is not being judged, for which he has transmitted tranquility given the results of the report. “It is important to make the appeal because we can imply that there is a public health problem. Where we have to give explanations is a risky issue,” the councilor pointed out.
