G7 Health Ministers pledge to work together and share information
The G7 Health Ministers warn that the omicron variant of covid-19 is “highly transmissible” and requires “urgent measures”. The G7 warning adds to the one previously made by the WHO, warning that the new variant represents a “very high” global risk where sudden increases in covid-19 could have “serious consequences” in some areas.

Those responsible for the G7 are committed to working together and sharing information on the new variant, which still has several uncertainties regarding its dangerousness and transmissibility, with multiple mutations. But scientists fear it is extremely contagious and partly bypasses the immune defenses that the vaccine provides.
Since the existence of the new omicron variant, originating in South Africa, became known last week, countries that have already detected cases of the disease have been added, while several countries have been taking preventive measures to prevent it from reaching their territories. Some states have canceled flights with South African countries and Israel, Japan and Morocco have closed their borders to foreigners.
