the park of the industrial spain its renewal is finally on track, after an intense process of stake to find the most functional and attractive design for the neighbors of the Sants-Montjuïc district. The space, at the foot of Estació de Sants, had many years of wear and tear despite being a small lung and meeting point in the Sants and Hostafrancs neighbourhoods. Now, after the neighborhood consensus on the last details of its reform, it is facing the final procedures for the start of works in spring 2023with a budget of €1.1 million.
The added interest of this intervention is that the proposal for the remodeling of Espanya Industrial was the most voted project not only among all the initiatives proposed by the citizens for that district in the Participatory Budgeting campaign, but also in Barcelona as a whole, with a total of 3,351 votes.
In recent weeks, the city council claims to have continued to work with the promoter group of the project, the neighborhood of the area and users of the park in specifying the last details. In this initial design, now “validated by the neighborhood”, the coexistence of different uses and groups who use and live in the park. From sports uses, recreational and recreational uses, from the smallest to the oldest, as well as the dog area, until now underused, which has been reformulated with the collaboration of entities that own these animals, the consistory has informed this Tuesday.
More sport and green area
The same source assures that the proposal reorders all these uses, concentrating all the sports in the central area of the park. In addition to the current basketball court, a new “multifunctional court that allows the practice of various sports” will be created, the petanque area will be improved, and the table tennis area will be relocated and improved. The proposal of youth groups to create a calisthenics space has even been taken up.
The transformation will end with 5,800 square meters of green area enhanced with shrubby plants that “will complement the existing Mediterranean forest”. The children’s area, which overlooks the Muntadas street façades, will also be increased and improved, and will cover a total of 820 square metres.
Especially noteworthy is the recreation area of dogsgiven that it will be relocated and expanded, passing next to the stands, so that “the vegetation acts as a separator from the rest of the areas of the park and contributes to muffling the noise”, underlines the city council.
