The eruption of Cumbre vieja continues on the island of La Palma

Lava flows from the volcano Old Summit on the island of La Palma in the Canaries have destroyed a total of 589 buildings and covered 258 hectares of land on the island which lives in particular on the cultivation of bananas and tourism, according to the European system of geospatial measurements Copernicus.

While no deaths or injuries were caused, the eruption led to the evacuation of more than 6,000 people who had to abandon their homes.

On Tuesday, the lava was some 800 meters from the sea, a feared encounter because it could cause explosions or toxic clouds. The authorities are not, however, in a position to say when or if this meeting will occur.
