The Edmonton Police Service says 95.5 percent of its employees have chosen to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by November 30.
EPS implemented its vaccination protocol on October 18, at which point staff had to choose one of three options: indicate that they are fully vaccinated or that they intend to be vaccinated before November 30, participate in rapid COVID tests. -19 on your own or go on leave without pay.
EPS said 3.8 percent of its employees opted for rapid tests and 0.1 percent (four employees) chose to take unpaid leave.
Seventeen employees have yet to complete the required survey that indicates their choice.
EPS spokeswoman Cheryl Sheppard said employees who cannot be vaccinated or who refuse to participate in rapid tests due to a protected characteristic, such as religious beliefs, are being “reasonably accommodated on an individual basis.”
