The coronavirus continues to break records in Catalonia

The weekend data are not a good indicator for see the evolution of the coronavirus, while fewer tests are carried out, fewer discharges are given, and not all the balances are collected, for this reason, until next week it will not be possible to know whether or not the peak expected by the experts in Catalonia.

In fact, they planned it precisely for this weekend. Waiting for the analyzes in the next few days, which does indicate the daily balance offered by Salut is that weekly infections continue to break records since the start of the pandemic, despite the fact that its effects are infinitely smaller, and that all indicators continue to rise.

Regarding hospitalizations, this Sunday there are 2,503 people admitted to Catalan health centers, compared to the 2,405 reported yesterday, while the number of patients treated in ICUs also rises, to 516, six more. After exceeding 25,000 official deaths from covid since the start of the pandemic on Friday, and no deaths reported yesterday, today the figure rises to 25,047.

Likewise, the risk of regrowth (EPG), which measures the potential growth of the epidemic, continues to skyrocket, which on Friday already exceeded the threshold of 5,000 points. Today it is at 5,253, a new record for the pandemic, while the rate of spread of the disease (Rt) has risen again slightly from 1.19 points to 1.22, so that every 100 infected infects an average of 122 people.

Other record is the number of weekly infections, almost 186,000, of which 22,078 have been reported in the last few hours (a lower figure, but let’s remember that fewer tests are done on weekends and not all of them transcend).

The cumulative incidence of positives at 7 days per 100,000 inhabitants (IA7) goes from 2,323 to 2,365, while the incidence at 14 days (IA14) goes from 4,304 to 4,399.

Positivity -the percentage of positive results in PCR tests and antigen tests- is 27.09%, far from the 5% recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to consider that a pandemic is under control.
