An 18-year-old canoeist who sank in the waters of Lake Joseph at St-Pierre-Baptiste, in central Quebec, was found dead on Saturday morning.
A spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec confirmed that search teams recovered his body around 11:30 a.m. M.
Authorities were first alerted to the rollover around 8:50 p.m. Friday night. According to initial reports, three people were in the canoe at the time. The other two had managed to return to shore on Friday night.
Police divers were called in to assist in the search Saturday morning. The teams had searched the lake and the shores the night before.
Police had initially said the young man was kayaking, but confirmed Saturday afternoon that he was aboard a canoe. He was not wearing a life jacket.
