The Specialized Prosecutor for Femicides of Nuevo León, Griselda Núñez, reported that the staff of the Nueva Castilla motel did not report that there was a disused area where the cistern was, before the body of Debanhi Escobar Bazaldúa was located; therefore, the personnel accompanied by canine pairs did not review this area.

“The canine binomials that have different approaches and training both for searching for people or finding drugs, we want to share with you that they work in coordination and are guided by people who take them to different places.”

“Within the investigation folder, at the time they go, the people (from the motel), who were there, did not make reference to that disused area. No person entered or checked that area, ”said the prosecutor, at a press conference.

For this reason, they will analyze videos, so they can see Debanhi’s body, as well as the public servants who could be observing that space.

“In the investigation logs that are kept on the days that appear, there is no distribution of tasks in that area, specifically since it was not mentioned by the employees (…) that it was in disuse ”, Said the prosecutor, also a spokesperson for the Debanhi case.

Research progress

As for the progress in the investigations of this case, regarding the silhouette of someone who got into one of the vehicles, they are certain that it is a man, and that up to now there is no image of Debanhi in the videos that they are kept from 5 in the morning of April 9, in the first and last chamber, nor in the place where his body was found.

There were five vehicles that entered at that time and have been under review and the five people who were at that time have already been interviewed and have been insured for the investigations.

“Why Debanhi’s tour (by the motel) does not appear in full, we are doing the investigation, it has to be corroborated, to clarify the facts, today they share the progress with us, we hope to have a conclusion soon that we allow the circumstances (of his death) to be determined,” he deepened.

So far this year there have been 48 violent deaths of women. 34 were considered femicides and 14 qualified homicides, the prosecutor said.

From 2013 to date, this Prosecutor’s Office has been in charge of 342 investigation folders, 55% have been prosecuted or are in the process of resolution and 45% are in process because a constant integration is carried out.
