The organization, which started in Grande Prairie, has now spread to several chapters nationwide and is the brainchild of local business advisor Ejibola Adetokunbo-Taiwo.

“Diligent Women is a network of black women, women of color and immigrant entrepreneurs in Canada,” said Adetokunbo-Taiwo.

“What we do is train them, empower them, connect them with resources, financial tools and connect them with successful women,” Adetokunbo-Taiwo said.

Sedulous Women has a number of programs including iLaunchHERproduct, an initiative to connect women to department stores, and iiNTEGRATE Next, a program for women new to Canada to help them find work in the modern economy.

“We connect women with resources that will help them grow and start their business,” Adetokunbo-Taiwo said.

This year’s keynote speaker was CBC Dragon’s Den Canadian business magnate and dragon, Dr. Wesley J. Hall.

Hall has worked on several of Canada’s most famous business transactions, including the Tim Hortons merger with Burger King.

“This is a man who came from Jamaica with practically nothing and started out as a postal worker,” Adetokunbo-Taiwo said.

The famous speaker was Titi Kuti, who is also a businessman, and is known for his role in the series “King of Boys” on Netflix.

“So I’m ready to have a conversation with him about what that is like. How do you feel about being an international actor? ”Adetokunbo-Taiwo said.

“We are really excited about the level of speakers and guest speakers that we are bringing in,” said Adetokunbo-Taiwo.

Sedulous Women was born out of what Adetokunbo-Taiwo found to be a deficit of Alberta-based groups serving black and immigrant women in business.

“It was that longing for an organization that could serve them, that could connect them with resources, that could provide training, that could empower them when it comes to business,” Adetokunbo-Taiwo said.
