According to reports out of Europe, Insigne was to start the match between Argentina and Italy in the Finalissima at Wembley Stadium — a new ‘Super Cup’ game contested by the winners of the UEFA European Championship and the Copa America.

However, the 30-year-old was not available after suffering an injury in the last training session before the match. The former Napoli player suffered ‘muscular discomfort’ and had to be removed from the field by a medical team.

Argentina won the match 3-0. Italy will also play in the Nations League during the current international break with games against Germany (June 4), Hungary (June 7), England (June 11) and Germany (June 14).

Insigne signed an MLS-record, four-year pre-contract with TFC in January, said to be worth north of $45 million.
