Grupo Televisa said that in the first quarter of the year it generated a net profit of 52,856.6 million pesos, an amount that compares favorably with the loss of 325.8 million pesos reported in the same period of 2021, driven by discontinued operations related to its merger. of content with Univision.
On January 31, the main television network in Mexico finalized the merger of its media, content and production assets with Univision, creating a new company called TelevisaUnivision.
On the side of total revenues, the company said that these amounted to 18,609.2 million pesos, equivalent to an increase of 3.3% compared to the first quarter of 2021, due to the increase in sales of the Cable and Other Businesses segments.
By segments, the sales of the SKY satellite television service fell 6.2%, while the use fell to 13.6% and had 175,200 disconnections of subscribers. Its cable business ended the period with 1.1% sales growth, with 336,219 customer additions.
Televisa reported that during the first quarter of 2022 it invested around 228.6 million dollars in property, plant and equipment as capital investments. For the following months of the year, it estimates to make capital investments of approximately 867.0 million dollars.
“Televisa’s report was positive (…) For this year a gradual recovery could continue, mainly in the advertising segment,” Monex indicates in a note.
