Telephone Operators Union votes to break out the strike at Telmex on May 6

The General Assembly of Union of Telephone Operators of the Mexican Republic (STRM) made the decision to break out the strike next Friday, May 6 at 12:00 noon, due to differences with the company Telefónica de México (Telmex) in the review of the collective bargaining agreement that affects 60,000 workers.

After three years of filing extensions to the strike, the union leader Francisco Hernández Juárez reported that in the last proposal presented by the company in the review, it provides for an aspect called “differentiated salaries”, which means that workers active workers have one and retirees another“in order to divide the union and the votes,” he said.

Hernández Juárez stressed that the labor authorities have not responded to the request made by the telephone operators to intervene in the negotiations and prevent the strike from breaking out.

The Assembly unanimously determined to break out the strike, and although it is expected that there will be no change in the consultation that will be made to the workers this Wednesday, it could be modified.
