Tamaulipas announces cross-border vaccination for minors between 5 and 17 years old

Monterrey, NL. The governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, participated in the start for the cross-border vaccination of minors between 5 and 17 years of age in the city of Reynosa. The goal is to immunize 40,000 minors, children of workers in the maquiladora sector.

The goal is to prevent contagions by Covid-19, strengthen vaccination schemes among border communities and facilitate trade.

This represents the second stage of the economic initiative for essential trade promoted by: the Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry (Index) Reynosa, the Hidalgo County and its Department of Health, the Consulate of Mexico in McAllen and federal and local authorities in South Texas.

“There is a high possibility that a fourth wave will arrive, which can have quite strong consequences. The fact that 40,000 boys and girls can be vaccinated here on the border will somehow depressurize this situation ”.

“It is a very clear gesture of support because we are not only partners, allies, friends, neighbors and family. My appreciation and thanks to the authorities involved, to Index Reynosa who has played a fundamental role in making this possible, ”said the governor of Tamaulipas.

It was reported that it will not be necessary for minors, or their parents, to have a visa to cross the border to receive the vaccine Pfizer.

Currently there are 155 manufacturing companies operating on this border that employ more than 142,000 people. About 80% of the companies affiliated with Index Reynosa are of American origin.

Reynosa’s maquiladora industry has socially responsible companies. We have already vaccinated 6,600 people thanks to the support of the County of Hidalgo and now the vaccine is for those under 5 to 17 years of age ”.

“We are going to vaccinate 500 children daily, to reach a total of 40,000 minors, to give that support to the workers of our companies and prevent the pandemic from continuing to spread,” said Humberto Martínez Cantú, president of Index, at a press conference. Reynosa.

For his part, the mayor of McAllen, Texas, Javier Villalobos, He said: “This is an effort where we can all win the fight together. What affects McAllen, affects Tamaulipas and vice versa. We are united, we are family, friends, we are here to help each other ”.
