Taliban crack down on women’s protest for the right to education

There are six of them, courageous, ready to do anything to defend their rights. Six women in Afghanistan, demonstrating against the Taliban, in front of the Rabia Balkhi high school for girls, in the eastern part of the Afghan capital. On their billboard these slogans: “Do not politicize education!” And “Education is here. ‘human identity’.

The demonstration will be brief, journalists are asked to leave, women too. The tension mounts, a gunshot disperses the crowd, and marks the end of the hope of a return to a normal life.

The foreign journalists are gathered, the Taliban explain to them that the meeting was not authorized.

All demonstrations have been banned by the new power in the country since September 8, and violators threatened with “severe legal action”.
