Swap your ticket: Rimouski follows suit

The Troque ton ticket program will make its appearance in Rimouski.

Thanks to this initiative, which has been implemented elsewhere in Quebec, cyclists and pedestrians will be able to have their statement of offense canceled in exchange for a free information session on good behavior on the road.

However, there are some limitations in this program. For example, it is intended only for pedestrians and cyclists who are caught committing a violation of the highway safety code. So it is not intended for motorists or motorcyclists.

Also, it’s only for one time. So if you have two tickets, only one will be cancelled, and if you get caught another time, you won’t be able to get your new ticket cancelled.

What motivates the City of Rimouski and the Sûreté du Québec is that there are still many pedestrians and cyclists who claim to ignore the regulations when they are stopped by officers.

Longueuil, on the South Shore of Montreal, was the first municipality to introduce such a program, which first addressed cyclists in 2016, then pedestrians in 2018.

Still under the theme of road safety, the City of Rimouski will reduce the speed limit on the 132. More specifically, motorists will have to drive at a maximum of 50 km/h on boulevards Saint-Germain, René-Lepage and Jessop, i.e. between the Sacré-Coeur district, and the Carrefour Rimouski.
