A driver suspected of being under the influence is in hospital after crashing their vehicle into a pole near Toronto’s lakeshore.
Toronto police were notified around 10 pm of a single-vehicle crash on Lakeshore Boulevard West near Palais Royale and Sunnyside Beach.
Const. David Hopkinson says officers arrived on the scene to a car with significant damage and nearby wires down. The pole was also knocked onto the road.
One individual was taken to a trauma center with serious injuries, and Hopkinson says that the same person was arrested for suspected impaired driving.
No other injuries have been reported.
Motorists are being urged to seek alternate routes as officers are expected to remain on the scene for some time.
