Around 2:40 am on March 11, Surrey RCMP were called by Surrey Fire Service to attend a home in the 17700-block of 101 Avenue, where two vehicles had been damaged by fire.

A Surrey RCMP arson investigator and a Surrey Fire inspector reviewed the scene and determined the cars had been intentionally set on fire.

“Although this incident appears to be targeted, a motive has not yet been determined and the vehicle owners are not known to police,” said police in a news release.

Police have combed the area for witnesses and surveillance footage. Video footage retrieved showed two suspects arriving to the area on foot before leaving northbound via a footpath toward 101A Avenue. Investigators believe one of the suspects may have had their clothing catch on fire and they may have sustained some injuries.

“We understand that members of the community have questions and concerns about an arson occurring in their neighborhood,” said Cpl. Vanessa Munn.

“Our investigators are actively working to collect evidence that would enable them to answer those questions. We are asking that any members of the community, who have any information, witnessed anything suspicious, or may have video surveillance from the area to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca.
