Sûreté du Québec seek public’s help on four gangland slayings

The Sûreté du Québec on Thursday set up four command posts north, west and south of Montreal in an effort to glean information on four killings linked to organized crime.

Noting the cases might not be linked, the provincial is seeking help from the public in Longueuil, Laval and Oka to solve the slayings that happened between 2020 and 2021.

In Laval, the SQ command post is at 164 des Laurentides Blvd., where investigators are seeking information on the slayings of Sacha Nelson César and Nitchell LaPaix.

LaPaix was killed last Aug. 17 near the intersection of Tourangeau and St-Luc Sts. In a communiqué, the SQ said it had reason to believe the victim was linked to street gangs.

César was shot to death on Dec. 1, 2020 as he left his home on de la Fabrique St. Investigators contend César had links to organized crime and was involved in drug trafficking.

The SQ command post at the intersection of Highway 344 and de l’Annonciation Rd. in Oka is trying to obtain information on the shooting death last July 1 in Kanesatake of Arsène Mompoint, whose assailant police say fled in the direction of Oka in a gray SUV.

The SQ say Mompoint is a well-known figure in organized crime.

In Longueuil, a command post at 2901 Chambly Rd. is seeking information on the shooting death last Aug. 5 on Truteau St. of Joas Jean-Baptiste, whom police say had been involved in several violent incidents over the previous months. In that case, two suspects were seen fleeing.

Thursday’s operation by the SQ is part of the ongoing CENTAURE program targeting organized crime as well as firearms violence and trafficking.
