Former President Donald Trump celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade on behalf of the US Supreme Court during a rally in Illinois on Saturday, where he also endorsed two Republicans.
“The court has ruled a victory for the Constitution, a victory for the rule of law, and above all, a victory for life,” Trump told a crowd of supporters at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Mendon, referring to to Friday’s abortion decision.
While in office, Trump appointed Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
In his speech, the former president applauded the efforts of pro-life activists and other conservatives: “Their boundless love, sacrifice, and devotion have finally been fully rewarded.”

“Thank you, Trump!” the thunderous crowd sang back.
The focus of the rally was Trump’s endorsement of Darren Bailey for governor of Illinois and his renewed support for Rep. Mary Miller, a Republican who represents the 15th congressional district.

“Darren is a farmer and he’s a fighter and he’s been a standout warrior in the Illinois State Senate where he’s totally, totally respected by everyone,” Trump praised.
“He will crack down on the violent crime that is eating away at our Democrat-run cities and restore the greatness of the state of Illinois. Darren has my full and complete support,” the former president continued, before calling Democratic Governor JB Pritzker “one of the the worst governors in America.

Bailey, a third-generation farmer who has served in both the Illinois House and state Senate, said he would seek to help Trump win Illinois in 2024.
“We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us here in Illinois, folks,” Bailey said. “I promised President Trump that in 2024, Illinois will roll out the red carpet for him because Illinois will be ready to welcome President Trump.”

Trump lost the state in his 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton, as well as in the 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden.
Trump’s rally was also aimed at bolstering support for Miller, whom he first endorsed on Jan. 1.
“With Mary, you can elect a fearless America First Patriot,” Trump told the crowd. “She’s an amazing woman, someone I’ve gotten to know very well. She’s been with me since day one. She hasn’t said a bad thing about me two years ago, three years ago, a year ago.” Trump said, adding that she is “a warrior for our movement.”
Miller also applauded the recent Supreme Court decision, calling it a “historic victory.”

She said the decision would not have been possible if the GOP had been led by “Never-Trump RINO.” RINO stands for Republican in name only, and is often used to describe conservatives who don’t align their votes with other party members.
The Illinois Primary Election is Tuesday, June 28.
