Supply of components will begin to be regularized in the second half of 2022: CLAUT

Monterrey, NL. The state’s automotive industry was affected in 2020 by the Covid-19 pandemic and this year his biggest obstacle was the lack of supply of components. This situation will continue in the first semester of 2022 and could be regularized until the second semester, Manuel Montoya Ortega, general director of the Nuevo León Automotive Cluster.

The also president of the National Network of Automotive Industry Clusters, commented: “In 2022 we will do well, the issue of supplies will continue to improve, which has been the biggest obstacle this year, in the first semester there will be problems of lack of components, and for the second semester the analysts foresee that it will begin to regularize supply”.

“In production, there is more demand than supply, you go to the agencies and there are not enough cars, due to lack of components or microchips and other materials, just as in 2020 we were affected by Covid-19, this year the lack has affected us of supplies and that is why we have sold less, because we have produced 20% less. So that 20% is what we hope to recover next year, ”explained Montoya Ortega.

The Mexican Association of Automobile Dealers (AMDA), indicated that 6,189 units were sold in November 2021, that is, it had an advance of 8.1% compared to the previous month, however there is still a distortion in the market due to the shortage of inventory.

“The results reflect the restriction faced by the lack of product linked to the shortage of semiconductors, and the logistical disruption of international trade, as well as its consequent increasing trend in prices at a global level, which has generated important impacts on supply chains. supply to various industries, ”commented Guillermo Rosales, AMDA CEO.

Therefore, AMDA foresees that the sales expectation for 2021 will be adjusted downwards with 1 million 006,557 units, which represents an increase of 5.9% compared to the previous year, and the expectation for 2022 is that the market will reach 1 million 056,762 units, with an increase of 5 percent compared to the previous year.

A BBC report on the shortage of microchips, of February 2021, indicates that the consulting firm Alix Partners has predicted that the automotive industry will lose 64,000 million dollars in sales because it has had to close or reduce production; however, this sector generates around 2 trillion dollars a year.
