Kopech keeps hits to a minimum

Michael Kopech may not dominate the Astros’ lineup on Sunday night, but he has to make sure Houston doesn’t start the hit list early. Kopech has allowed just 24 hits in 51 2-3 innings this season. The converted reliever has pitched past the sixth inning only once this year, a seven-inning shutout of the Yankees on May 22.

Kopech was subsequently beaten by the Blue Jays for six hits in just three innings before being sent to the showers on June 1. That was the only start of his this season in which he allowed five or more hits. The Texas native would bounce back with six innings of one-hit baseball against the Dodgers, before leaving his June 12 start against the Rangers in the first inning with a minor knee injury.

That ailment may prevent manager Tony La Russa from allowing Kopech to throw very deep in this game, further increasing the chances that he will avoid giving up five Houston hits. Kopech can also give up a fair amount of walks, as he has amassed 24 thus far. The Astros’ lineup can be content to wait for their chances, as they are eighth in walks drawn this season.

To choose: Kopech Under 4.5 hits allowed (-136 in FanDuel)

Incredible Alvarez

Yordan Alvarez went 0-for-3 at the plate in Houston’s 7-0 loss on Saturday, snapping a season-best five-game streak in which he recorded at least one RBI. He should be back on the beam in no time on Sunday.

Álvarez drove reliever Matt Foster deep during a damaging sixth inning of Friday’s 13-3 win over the White Sox, his first home run since June 7. 19 RBIs, a team best.

Alvarez is now tied for third in the AL in RBIs (47) in 2022. Amazingly, teams have been content to pitch to the star slugger, as he walked just seven times in June but struck out just six. times in the same period.

Bettors should rely on the skills of Jose Altuve and Michael Brantley to get on base against Alvarez, as the former just finished his fourth multi-hit game of the month, while the latter has hit safely in every game in June. minus one. beginning.

To choose: Alvarez Over 0.5 RBIs (+115 in FanDuel)

Pollock will paint Javier in a corner

AJ Pollock has been a threat to opposing pitchers in June, mostly from the first hole. He should do it again on Sunday night. From June 9-15, Pollock had strung together seven multi-hit games, crossing the plate at least once on four occasions.

He doesn’t display the typical patience of a leadoff hitter, drawing only three walks in his last 66 plate appearances. However, Pollock doesn’t really have to employ that skill against Houston starter Christian Javier, who allowed 7.1 hits per nine innings in 2022.

Once the veteran outfielder sets the table, players like Luis Robert and Jose Abreu, who are hitting .300 and .328 in June, respectively, will do the rest.

To choose: Pollock Over 0.5 runs (-110 in FanDuel)
