Summer weather, 20-degree temperatures on the way in Toronto next week

Mother Nature is coming through for Ontarians as Toronto and most of the GTA are expected to be greeted by summer weather next week.

Though temperatures should hover around seasonally into the weekend and Mother’s Day, southern Ontario may see some summer-like temperatures — possibly as high as 24 C — by Tuesday.

Buy mom/grandma/auntie some sunglasses. Mother’s Day weekend will be filled with sunshine in Toronto,” CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai said.

“We are looking to stay warm here into the twenties [next week] once it arrives on Tuesday, pretty much all week into next weekend.”

Ramsahai says it won’t be muggy or humid — instead, temperatures will be comfortable for outdoor activities.

In the short term, while Thursday is shaping up to be a pleasant one weather-wise, the clouds will come in on Friday with a minimal chance of rain showers in some areas.

“We have a system in the US that is just skimming us to the south,” Ramsahai said.

“I do think all of that rain is going to stay mainly stateside. Friday is the day we get into that cloud coverage, and by Saturday, we will be dry again and sunny.”

Sunshine is expected throughout the day for areas north of Toronto on Saturday. Ramsahai says it could be windy on Sunday with winds reaching 60 km/h and will stay cooler, especially down by the lake.

Toronto and most of the GTA were hit with anywhere between 15-30 mm of rain through Wednesday morning, with locally up to 40 mm in areas that saw embedded thunderstorms.
