On Sunday, approximately 300 people protested in front of a University of Massachusetts Amherst fraternity in order to denounce an alleged sexual assault by members of the group. The demonstration was reported by the city police.
Protesters reported a sexual assault during a party at the Theta Chi fraternity on North Pleasant Street on Saturday night, the Boston Globe reported.
The protest was called Sunday morning by an anonymous Reddit user, through a post. The president of the fraternity headquarters did not immediately comment on a request for comment.
A petition, with more than 12,000 signatures, was posted online demanding the closure or suspension of Theta Chi.
Sunday’s rally “focused on reports circulating online and among students of an alleged sexual assault related to the Theta Chi Fraternity,” said Ed Blaguszewski, a spokesman for the University.
