MARKET REVIEW. The New York Stock Exchange opened sharply lower on Monday fearing the impact on the economy and inflation from the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

The flagship index of the Toronto Stock Exchange lost more than 300 points at the opening due to particularly marked losses in the energy sector (-4.35%) and base metals (-3.65%) .

The clues

In Toronto, the S & P / TSX fell 310 points, or 1.55%, to 19,674 points.

In New York, the S&P 500 lost 76 points, or 1.77%, to 4,250 points.

The Dow jones dropped 719 points, or 2.08%, to 33,967 points.

The Nasdaq fell 239 points, or 1.66%, to 14,187 points.
