The drama began at 3:30 p.m. when the RCMP issued a statement asking people in the London Drugs area near Diamond Road to lock their doors and stay inside, and for no one to take photos of the police activity to post on social networks. .

According to a statement on Twitter at 4:20 p.m., police said they had received a report of a man with a gun in the Diamond Road / Head Road area. The man in his 40s was described, with a slim build and wearing dark jackets and pants. The man was reported to be carrying a rifle.

Cpl. Angela Kermer told the Squamish chief at 6 p.m. that the man had not been arrested, but was in contact with the police.

Kermer said the man was seen earlier in the afternoon chasing a child and that the couple were related. The boy is safe and there have been no injuries or shots.
